Went on a Roadtrip!

A few weeks ago, on a very stormy day, Mr. RQ and I decided to take a road trip to Southeastern Maine....a 4 hour trip on a dry day, longer when it's raining cats and dogs and dinosaurs! LOL!  Destination:
Mariner's Compass Quilt Shop in Bath, Maine!  We got there early..before the quilt shop opened.  The day we arrived in Bath was cool, clear and sunny, a perfect fall day:)  The shop is located in the historic district of Bath and as we drove through the streets looking for the address, my excitement rose as I took in all the lovely shops and the cobblestone walkways.  I wanted to walk on those cobblestones so hurry up and find a place to park! LOL! We started wandering toward the waterfront and discovered the most delightful farmer's market with lots of wonderful temptations....
I really wanted to do the whole Calories Schmalories thing but the line up was long.  A little further down the way, we found Pie Fixes Everything!  Here we had the most delicious and huge homemade donuts..the monster ones like Gramma's used to make for farm workers and big, strong growing boys!  We had a wonderful time at the market.

The shop itself was lovely and the girls were so friendly and helpful.  Mirabelle, the shop cat, greeted us very vocally when we entered and we shared a rub and a scratch. AND, (doing my extremely happy dance here) guess what came home with ME!!!!!!

BLISS!!!!! Oh yes, my friends, I fed the addiction!!LOL! Look at all the RED in this line!  I have been panting after this fabric like forever!!!  And I got some pieces to go with my layer cake so that I would have borders! I am in bliss with my BLISS :)  Of course, after all that excitement, I couldn't have cared less if we visited any other shops.  It was hard but I forced myself to do it LOL!  The great thing about the shops in tourist locations is that they always carry unique items that you would never see anywhere else.  We browsed, we walked the cobblestones and then we ate!  If you are ever in Bath, THE place to eat (the locals led me there) is....
J.R. Maxwell's!!  This place has the most wonderful historical atmosphere, warm and cozy, lots of tables....and fabulous food!  We had clam chowder (we were on the coast after all) and huge sandwiches on bread that had been baked in a brick oven and came with homemade mayo.  I really meant to take a picture of the food but we were ssooo hungry LOL!  The building that houses the restaurant is very old and it wasn't hard to imagine yourself 100 years ago, sitting there in your long dress and shawl, enjoying cider and warm bread.  It was a great visit, one day is not enough to see it all and I can't wait to go back!  Thanks Bath for your wonderful hospitality.  Happy Stitching!

Shelley, I bought 10+ yards of the Bliss background for my Roseville Album applique quilt!! Love, love it! LOL I'd like to have the Calories Schmalories sign in my kitchen, along with Pie Fixes Everything. Went to Camden, Bangor and Bar Harbor years (many! years) ago when I was in college; I would love to talk my Mr. Cheaper into going! LOL!
Blessings,
Mary Lou

Isn't it great that NB is so close to Maine!!!!! I am jealous that you got all the way down to Bath! We were there in August, but this time of year we are limited to Calais. LOL. The Bliss is very pretty. It is the red and aqua together that does it for me. It is funny too, but just thinking of you going to Maine has made me remember the Forest City border crossing (although I figure you use Woodstock). We drove out to it one day years ago just to see it and it was such a beautiful drive to get there.

Looks like a wonderful time (love the calories schmalories). And love that Bliss fabric too. I couldn't resist it either and am ready to start a quilt from that line. It makes me smile looking at it.

Love the Bliss you got -- and oh, my that restaurant. But you walked off any calories on all that cobblestone, right? :-)
